Hawaii-Maui 1

It was nice having so much help traveling from island to island.  Henry did amazing with all of the plane rides, but mommy and daddy were thankful for the break.  Aunt Meghan and Uncle Nic entertained Henry while Andrew and I found food.

The view from our room was gorgeous.  We had these beautiful mountains and if you leaned over the balcony there was a view of the ocean.  Such an amazing state.

We stayed in a very nice Marriott right on the beach.  There was a fun little walking path that where we went for walks in the mornings.  It took us by other resorts and down the way there was a great place to snorkel (so I'm told, I didn't snorkel in Maui).  I think the name of it is Black Rock.

One of the highlights of the trip, for me, was our whale watching excursion.  Okay, picture this, its 70 degrees and pouring down rain.  Andrew and I are meeting the rest of the family at the boat so we are hurrying to get everything we need.  We have no rain gear (because who needs rain gear in a tropical climate in Winter? :-)) and our main focus is keeping Henry dry and warm.  We show up, put Henry in the stroller and take off.  We find the family and get on the boat just in time.  We then look at each other and say, "@$&!, we forgot the camera!"  All of that to let you know that the pictures below are not of our whaling trip, but Andrew saw some when he was scuba diving and took some decent pictures with his phone.

As it turns out, whales go to Hawaii to make babies and have babies, I can't think of a more beautiful place for both of those activities.  They don't eat at all while they are there, but the mama whale still manages to produce 15 gallons of milk for her baby!  Any mothers out there feel like that's about right? Talk about feeling like a milk machine.

My favorite moment was when the mama was slapping her fluke (tail) on the water and then the baby started slapping his fluke right next to the mama.  I guess becoming a parent 8 months ago I see things a little differently.  As Henry starts to mimic what others are doing it is just amazing how his mind is constantly learning something new.  The baby was just doing what mama did, so beautiful to see how closely we are connected.

Those are the first couple days in Maui.  I'm going to do these in short spurts so that you don't get bored reading them and I don't have to do one massive blog at once.

Next up: a Luau, Henry's first beach experience and fun in the pool!
