Henry did amazing on the flights! We left Wichita around 6am and flew to Denver, so a nice short flight to see how this was going to work. From Denver we flew to San Francisco and then the almost 6 hour flight to Honolulu. When I first heard about how many time we would have to change planes I really thought it would be a pain, but it was actually really nice getting off the planes and letting Henry play on the floor for a little bit before he was cooped up again.
One of the best decisions we (actually Andrew) made was to get him his own seat. It gave him a chance to play with his toys and sleep laying down and we didn't have to hold him the whole time. He is definitely a little ham, charming everyone that would make eye contact with him. Below left he is flirting with the girl sitting in front of us. It seems like on most of our flights we were surrounded by people who were really great with him and were happy to entertain him if he started getting fussy. On the way there he pretty much stuck to his eat, activity, sleep routine. I was so proud of him!
We arrived in Honolulu around 7pm which was 11pm our time. Sally and Lee picked us up and we headed to Hale Koa, a military resort that we were able to enjoy because Lee is a veteran. We grabbed a little bit to eat so that we could talk and catch up, but mainly we just wanted a bed.
Henry is hanging out with Granddad while mom and dad eat, but he was pretty tired and not real excited about being handed off at this point. After some rest he was much happier going to other people.
Andrew, Henry and I had lunch at a bar by the beach. Henry enjoys drinking water out of straws. Of course we put the water in the straw and drop it in his mouth. He is advanced, but not able to suck through a straw yet :-)
Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures of Oahu. The first day we were there we just wanted to rest and did more of getting the time change figured out than anything and the second day Andrew went for a swim in the ocean (never mind that it was high winds that day) and I went for a run with Henry on the boardwalk. We were getting settled in and figuring out what we wanted to do with our time there when Andrew started feeling sick and through the evening and into the morning he continued to feel ill. So, the third day was taking care of Andrew and doing laundry. We did manage to watch the Pro Bowl on TV which was funny because it was actually happening in Honolulu.
Henry enjoys chewing on everything, water bottles, phones, beer bottles (see above). We had a lovely sunset cocktail from Sally and Lee's balcony and then we headed out for dinner.
*Note: No baby was given beer during the photographing of this trip, it was simply set up to look that way.
Henry, in his adorable khakis (that were way to big and he was really hip because he was sagging in them) and Beach Bum shirt is ready to go to the Pacific Aviation Museum of Pearl Harbor. So, we did manage to do a touristy thing while on Oahu. Before we headed to the airport to go to Maui Nic, Meghan, Andrew, Henry and I all headed to Pearl Harbor for an amazing look at history.
Henry was obviously amazed by all of the planes around him. We could hardly keep him in his stroller.
The aviation museum offered a flight simulator that would put you in the middle of a "dog fight" as if you were in WWII. Andrew did great, with Henry's help of course.
This was just the first part of our wonderful adventures in Hawaii. Next, off to Maui...
